WSD Completes Laying of Pipes on Bird Rock Road

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Inspector of Works at the St. Kitts Water Services Department (WSD), Kurt Carty, shared video footage with his colleagues, showing the completion of roadwork on Bird Rock Road, to accommodate the laying of underground pipes that will connect the Basseterre desalination plant to the storage tank at Morne Peak.

The footage follows an official road closure notice issued on July 9 to facilitate the WSD’s activity in the area.

A moment of elation for the workers whose efforts are about to bring to fruition the ministry’s vision to restore Basseterre to 24/7 water service, the video memorializes a milestone on the path to ending water scarcity in Basseterre, and ultimately the entire island.

The Basseterre desalination plant is expected to come online by August 2025. It will introduce 2 million gallons of potable water per day into the existing network.
